Ravens claim result in final away game of campaign

FC Isle of Man claimed a result from their final away game of the season after a 1-1 draw with Irlam in the NWCFL Premier Division last night (18 April).

The Ravens took the lead with seven minutes of the first half remaining when Charlie Higgins netted after his initial cross was blocked.

Irlam then claimed a deserved second-half equaliser when Lewis Ayres found the net on his debut with 69 minutes played.

As the home side pushed the Manx side back for the remainder of the contest, FC Isle of Man held firm to claim a point ahead of returning to home soil tomorrow (20 April).

On a rainy evening at The RG3 Digital Stadium, Ravens goalkeeper Adam Killey was forced into a number of saves in the early stages as Irlam pushed for a quick opener.

Despite soaking up the majority of pressure, it was FC Isle of Man that then made the breakthrough on 38 minutes.

Higgins saw his original cross blocked before retrieving the ball and making space for himself, going on to fire a strike beyond Irlam goalkeeper, Austyn Hall.

Ten minutes after the restart, Jack McVey nearly bagged his third goal in four outings for the Island side only to see a free-kick cannon off the post.

That aside, Irlam then earned a reward for their attacking intent going into the final 20 minutes as Ayres found the net just five minutes after coming off the bench to claim his first goal for the club.

Holding onto the scoreline, FC Isle of Man had Killey to thanks again with ten minutes left as he produced a big stop to deny Irlam's Mason Everton one-on-one.

FC Isle of Man's next match will be at home against AFC Liverpool this Saturday (20 April) kicking-off at 6pm.
