History is made in dramatic Senior TT

Ian Hutchinson rode into the history books with victory in the Senior TT.

The 30-year-old from Bingley in Yorkshire made it a 'clean sweep' at TT 2010, and became the first rider in the 103 year history of the event to win five races in a week.

But the race was marred by incidents and retirements involving many of the top riders.

The Senior was restarted and run over four laps after Guy Martin came off his machine at Ballagarey, and during the resumed action Ramsey rider Conor Cummins came off at the Verandah.

An official bulletin from the ACU said Guy had bruising to both lungs and 'minor fractures in the upper spine'.

According to Race Control, Conor was conscious and talking to medics after his accident and was flown to hospital by helicopter.  

He suffered leg and arm injuries but no further details have been released.

Ian Hutchinson's race time for the four laps was 1:10:24.59, an average speed of 128.607mph.

His margin of victory over second placed Ryan Farquhar, from Northern Ireland,  was 37 seconds, with Farquhar recording a race average of  127.46mph.

Bruce Anstey from New Zealand was the third man on the podium, a further 35 seconds down, with a race average speed of 126.40mph.

Hutchinson set a new race record time for a four lap Senior TT, beating the previous best, set by Adrian Archibald in 2003, by well over two minutes. 

 John McGuinness and Keith Amor, two other contenders for 2010 Senior TT honours, were forced to retire from the action.
