Sixth on final stage secures title
Lizzie Holden won the best young rider category at the Tour of Tuscany, which took place over the weekend.
A sixth-place finish on yesterday's third and final stage was enough for her to claim the title.
Holden crossed the line three seconds behind stage winner Soraya Paladin, as one of a nine-strong group which contested the victory.
She also finished sixth overall in the General Classification.
Reacting to her win her team, Drops, said: "To deliver when the whole team has invested in you is the mark of a very special rider. Lizzie Holden was our leader in Tuscany and she delivered. Counter attacking the front of the group on the wet cobblestones in Pescia, Lizzie distanced her Russian rival to win the U23 jersey by 27 seconds. Her first words after the finish were 'we did it'. Such a modest and humble champion."
