Ride out to be held on Sunday, 25 August

A memorial event will take place at this year's Manx Grand Prix in memory of a stalwart of road racing on the Isle of Man.

The Jack Wood Legacy Lap will take place on the Snaefell Mountain Course from 9.30am on Sunday, 25 August.

Members of the public will be able to take part along with past and present TT and MGP riders.

Vice-Chairman of the Manx Motor Cycle Club and travelling marshal, Jim Hunter explains what made Mr Wood such a popular and well-respected figure in the road racing community here:

Sign-on to be involved will take place at the MGP Supporters Club Tent at the TT Grandstand in Douglas from 18-24 August.

Mr Wood - who died in December 2023 - competed at the MGP between 1950 and 1955 before then taking part in eleven TT races from 1955 onwards.

He also took part in the first ever Southern 100 Road Races meeting in 1955 and featured there again in 1958.

After becoming an active member of the Manx Motor Cycle Club he went on to become Clerk of the Course for the MGP and Isle of Man TT Races.

Elsewhere Mr Wood had also been Deputy Clerk of the Course at Billown between 1961 and 1968 before a 21-year spell as course inspection car driver on the same circuit.
