Mills shock Old Boys

Union Mills caused the shock of the day in the Canada Life Premier League on Saturday.

Chris Kelly and debutant Issac Quilliam scored the second half goals that saw the Millers put a big dent in Old Boys’ Railway Cup qualification hopes with a fine 2-0 win at Blackberry Lane.

Jamie Johnstone was the star as Rushen overcame battling Laxey to ultimately cruise to victory.

He scored a well-taken hat-trick to put the hosts in the ascendancy before late goals made it a convincing scoreline.

Matthew Cain netted the fourth and Aaron Hawley drilled home a penalty with two minutes remaining after Laxey had been reduced to 10 men.

Two goals in as many minutes fired Corinthians to a 3-0 victory at 10-man St Mary’s on Saturday.

Marc Priestnal’s dismissal early in the second half didn’t help the hosts and the deadlock was broken by Ryan Gartland with around 15 minutes remaining before Danny Oram added a second moments later.

Sean Doyle rounded off the scoring to earn Corinthians a rare victory at the Bowl.

At the top of the table, champions St George’s still lead the way, ahead of Peel on goal difference.

Geordies finished 6-1 home winners over St John’s, courtesy of a Ciaran McNulty treble and further goals from Callum Morrissey, Sam Caine and Johnny Myers.

Peter Callow netted the St John’s consolation.

Newly promoted Ramsey Youth Centre battled hard to hold Peel during the opening 45 minutes at Douglas Road.

However, after a goalless first half, two from Lee Gale, two from Kerron Christian and one each from Ashley Webster and Dominic McGreevey ensured Peel finished 6-0 winners.

Marown gave themselves another big survival boost with a late flourish putting a one-sided slant on their match with Ayre United.

Juan Killip’s eighth minute opener put Marown in front before Shaun Shimmin doubled the lead after half an hour.

Marown put the gloss on the scoreline with two further goals in injury time through Sam Cubbon and Niall Quayle.
