Would-be general election candidates may be put off standing by the difficulty of splitting their time between constituency and national issues.
That's a view of a senior figure in the Isle of Man's financial services industry.
Robin Bigland is chairman of the Isle of Man Assurance Group and a resident of Glenfaba.
Speaking to Manx Radio before the Glenfaba constituency debate, he said the task of looking out for local and national issues was a heavy burden (listen to audio file below):
