Rugby: Douglas break duck with big win

Vagabonds beaten comprehensively at Colne & Nelson

Report by Dave Christian:

After three defeats on the bounce the Douglas duck was firmly broken at Port-e-Chee with a 53-6 win against fourth place Vale of Lune in Regional 2 North West.

In the early exchanges the two sides traded penalties - Bryn Snellgrove’s effort gave Douglas the lead which was almost immediately cancelled out by Chris Ramwell at the other end.

With twenty five minutes played Gihard Visagie crashed in for Douglas’ opener and he was followed by Si Hoddinott for their second, Snellgrove converted both and Douglas led 17-3 at half time.

Ramwell struck a second penalty early in the second half for the visitors but Douglas had a sniff of blood and showed a ruthless streak as they piled on the points.

Brendan Kelly finished off a Snellgrove break, a Harry Hewson solo run bagged the bonus point, Visagie drove over for his second and Sam McCord’s raw pace on the right wing saw him cross twice.

Amid all this Snellgrove kicked a second penalty and another four conversions to give him an eighteen point personal haul.

Vagas beaten at Colne & Nelson

Vagas included some new and old faces in their squad to face Colne & Nelson in Counties 3 ADM Lancs/Cheshire but were well beaten 45-0 by the Lancashire outfit.

Vagas now have two weeks off to lick their wounds before third place De La Salle visit Ballafletcher.

Rugby the only winner in friendly

The Manx Executive forwards versus backs ended in a 45-45 draw at the Mooragh Park. Among it all were hat tricks for Matt Meechan, Adam Dunlop, Keiran Kneale and Jacob Corteen. Ramsey’s Jared May picked up two tries – one for each team.
