Regional 2 North West
Northwich 10-30 Douglas
Friendly
Northwich 3rd XV 10-57 Douglas Celts
Report by Dave Christian:
Good news day for Douglas
After a turbulent couple of months, Lady Luck finally smiled in Douglas’ direction.
They picked up a 30-10 bonus point win at Northwich in Regional 2 North West which most definitely keeps them in the hunt for a play off space.
Additionally rivals Sandbach slipped up away at Firwood Waterloo and in the chasing pack, there were defeats for Burnage and Widnes which leaves Douglas just a point behind third placed Sandbach and gives them a six point cushion from the pack.
Harry Cartwright, Simon Hodinnott, Harry Hewson and Craig Martin all went in for Douglas tries with Matty Wood converting two and adding two penalties.
Douglas host Birkenhead Park at Port-e-Chee next week before getting a welcome two week break.
Douglas’ second team, the Celts travelled with the first team for a friendly against Northwich 3rd XV.
The Celts won that game 57-10. George Evans and Charlie Henthorn both picked up two tries for Douglas.
There were also tries from Cal Dentith, Joey Dale, Matty Clague and Jonty Shimmin.
