Rugby: Douglas win on the road at Northwich

Heavy defeat for Vagabonds at league leaders

Report by Dave Christian:

Douglas picked up the away win they wanted beating Northwich 16-12 in Regional 2 North West.

They remain seventh however after Altrincham Kersal beat Widnes, the result does however pull Douglas eight points clear of Widnes in the standings and leaves them very much in the hunt for a top five finish.

The in-form Jonty Cope bagged Douglas’ only try of the afternoon; scrum half Nathan Robson provided all the other points off the tee, kicking a conversion and three penalties.

Douglas now have the luxury of a week off before they meet Bowdon at Port-e-Chee on 1 March.

Heavy defeat for Vagabonds

A trip to the league leaders Garstang was never going to be easy, especially when the squad is carrying injuries and missing its influential captain.

Garstang won this one 104-7 after leading 64-0 at half time.

Vagas weren’t helped by a flight delay and will take this one on the chin as they prepare for an eminently winnable home game against Ashton-under-Lyne next Saturday.

Ramsey take points at QEII

Ramsey beat Western Vikings 49-10 at QEII in the Manx Shield.

There were two tries apiece for Adam Dempsey, Matt Meechan, Will Millsopp and Leo McVicar with former Viking Danny Howard scoring the other.

Millsopp and McVicar also added a conversion apiece; keeping in line with the brace of tries theme, Vikings skipper Ed Knight pocketed two for his side.

Douglas Casuals win at Ballakilley

'The Casuals' beat Southern Nomads 46-7 in the friendly at Ballakilley Park.

Rob Craine picked up Nomads’ only try with Mark Young converting on a difficult day for Nomads after learning of the sad passing of Sami Benbatoul earlier this week.

The teams had a minute’s applause for Sami before the kick off.
