'Manx Missile' misses out on 2016 world double
Manxman Mark Cavendish narrowly missed out on cycling's Road World Championship title.
He finished second behind Slovakia's Peter Sagan - who secured a dramatic final stage win in Doha to retain the trophy he won last year.
Cavendish, the 2011 champion claimed silver, with Belgian Tom Boonen in third.
It rounded off a successful 2016 for the 31-year-old who won four stages of the Tour de France, the madison track world title with Sir Bradley Wiggins and his first ever Olympic medal, with silver in the omnium.
This was the climax of yesterday’s race.
