They went down 34-27 away at newly promoted Crewe & Nantwich, despite scoring five tries.
Sam Brennan and Aiden O’Shea both crossed for Vagas in the first half with Jonny Beckley converting one to give Vagas a 17-14 half time lead.
Ross McCulloch and Chris Vorster both picked up second half tries for Vagabonds but, with Jonny Beckley having an off day with the boot, missing four conversions and two penalties, Vagas were unable to push home their advantage.
