Experts urge a shift towards more resilient species
Following this week's urgent call to action by a local tree expert for a large-scale planting programme to combat the spread of Ash Dieback and Dutch Elm disease on the Island, a key question arises: which tree species should people consider planting?
Consulting arborist Ben Brooker says it has been some time since he last came across an Ash or Elm tree that wasn’t affected by disease.
With these species under serious threat, the focus now shifts to planting more resilient alternatives - but which trees are best suited to the Island’s environment, and just as importantly, which should people avoid?
