Environmental services committee chairman unhappy with Government actions
The chairman of Douglas Council's environmental services committee has accused central government of abusing its position at the Eastern Civic Amenity Site.
Five local authorities pay for and jointly manage the recycling facility, with Douglas Corporation operating the site as the current contractor.
Under the agreement, recyclables gathered at the site can be sold by the contractor, with income used to keep costs down.
Councillor Ritchie McNicoll says government was originally granted space for nine recycling units at the site, but its upped the number to 22 large containers without prior agreement.
With costs rising at the recycling centre, Mr McNicoll has called this action a 'break in the contract' and says it's unfair that revenue is taken away without government contributing.
It has described the situation as a 'cooperative' one, but Mr McNicoll doesn't see it that way, as he explained to Local Democracy Reporter Ewan Gawne:
