Planning permission originally granted for five years in 2019
The Department of Infrastructure wants to continue using a temporary pipeline and lagoon to remove and store silt from Peel Marina until 2026.
Silt has been kept at a temporary storage lagoon to dry out since the marina was dredged in 2020 and 2021.
Planning permission for temporary use of the facility was granted in 2019 for a five-year period, but the DoI now wants to continue using the site until the end of 2026, after which it will be decommissioned and restored to its original agricultural condition.
The department says the extension is required so that material can be managed in a sustainable and cost-effective way.
