Cordon set up after gas cyclinders seen in blaze
Fire crews from Ramsey, Kirk Michael and Douglas were called out yesterday afternoon (Tues 20) after reports of a vehicle fire at a property near to Andreas Airfield.
The alarm was raised just before 3pm and on arrival at the scene, it was found the blaze had spread to three vehicles and involved a number of gas cylinders.
Crews worked with a limited water supply to prevent the fire from spreading further and cool the affected cylinders.
A cordon was then put up around the area after officers were unable to identify the contents of all of the containers.
Fixed monitors were put in place to carry out continued cooling, while crews retreated to a safe position.
After discussions with Manx Gas, the cylinders were deemed safe and crews returned to their positions and remained at the scene for around three hours.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
