Addiction charity to close in months
A well-known Island charity which helps people with drug and drink problems is to close by the end of this year.
The Drug Advice Service and Helpline, based in Douglas, has been running for almost 20 years but was dealt a blow three years ago when the government withdrew more than £100,000 of annual funding.
An official announcement is expected shortly, but Manx Radio understands the registered charity will shut in the next couple of months.
Angela Moffatt of trade union Prospect represents workers at the organisation, and says its closure will be a huge loss.
