Hooper: 'Local Economy Strategy is a blank cheque for gov't to spend money'

MHK questions the detail included in new plans for regeneration

A Ramsey MHK has described new plans to revitalise towns and villages on the Isle of Man as a ‘blank cheque’ for government to spend money.

Lawrie Hooper told Manx Radio he doesn't believe there will be enough oversight of the Local Economy Strategy.

Businesses, local authorities and town groups will be able to apply for £2.4 million of available funding to try and enhance the Island’s high streets.

The Department for Enterprise says the strategy will reduce the number of empty properties in town centres, increase footfall, and improve the Island's urban areas.
