Island's Covid death toll increases

Rise of two in the last week

A further two Covid-19 deaths have been recorded on the Isle of Man in the last week. 

It takes the total number of deaths on the Island since the start of the pandemic to 104. 

The information has been revealed in the latest surveillance report from Public Health. 

Covid related deaths are those where Covid-19 is mentioned anywhere within the death certificate. 

59 per cent of those who have died, since the start of the pandemic, are men.

The majority of people who have died have been in the 80-89 age range.

This week there has been a plateau in case numbers across all age groups. 

The reproduction – or R number – has fallen to 0.38 indicating a further fall in transmission rates. 

That’s down from 0.78 the week prior. 

Public Health says due to the absence of new variants of concern it expects the fall in cases to continue.

This is due to the BA.2 omicron wave passing through the susceptible population and we move from spring to summer. 

Hospital data – which shows the number of people in hospital with Covid-19 and their vaccination status – has not been provided in the latest report. 

According to Public Health it’s due to small numbers and ‘associated caveats and identifiability’.
