Effective legal safeguarding also crucial
An MHK is floating the idea of creating a fund to purchase property considered to be of national importance.
Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Jason Moorhouse will ask the Chief Minister in the House of Keys tomorrow (1 May) whether he has plans to establish such a fund.
Mr Moorhouse is concerned historic buildings such as Castletown's Old Police Station could be lost to the private sector, and left in state of disrepair.
He says a national property fund could prove to be the solution, but effective laws to protect buildings must also be put in place:
