DoI to introduce changes
The Department of Infrastructure is planning to allow the public to pay off their road tax over a longer period.
In a Tynwald written answer, the Infrastructure Minister Tim Baker says an option to pay vehicle duty for a period of six or twelve months will be offered, but hasn’t said when the change will take place.
Calls have been made for government to introduce monthly payments, over concerns some can’t afford to pay the lump sum all at once.
More than 3,700 people have signed an online petition calling for this option to be offered by government.
A review of vehicle duty was being undertaken by his predecessor Ray Harmer earlier this year, with plans for a 10-year-model in the pipeline.
Tynwald approved an increase in road tax of 3.2 per cent earlier this year.
