Cabinet Office hope to have it rolled out for local elections next year
A new voting count system was introduced at the Port St Mary Commissioner's by-election this week.
It's called a 'kangaroo' - the papers are layered in between a piece of clear plastic, votes are counted in a row and tallied at the end of the board.
Frank Carolan, Head of Crown and Elections at the Cabinet Office hopes the new approach will be rolled out at more elections:
Clerk Hayley Kinvig said the process was 'smooth':

Overnight sailings cancelled due to adverse weather
Rapist who 'terrorised' his victim told his sentence was 'entirely justified'
Complaints process for health system changed
Discovery of oiled birds 'makes a mockery of our biosphere status'
Charges now in place for those sending parcels to the EU
