Professor Ronald J Barr has been appointed as the new principal of the Isle of Man College with effect from September 1.
He moves up from his previous post as deputy principal at the college and succeeds Dr Ian Killip, who's retired after four years in the top post.
Professor Barr studied at Glasgow University, where he gained an MA joint honours degree in history and politics.
This was followed by a Postgraduate Certificate in Secondary Teaching at Aberdeen College of Education and then MA and PhD research degrees in US History at Louisiana State University.
He holds a number of fellowships, has taught at universities in the north west of England, is a published author and has appeared ontelevision and radio history and current affairs programmes.
Professor Barr says, "It is a great honour to be given an opportunity to lead the college at this important time.
"I look forward to helping ensure that the college and its staff continue to provide the education and training opportunities that Island employers and the wider community require."
