The education minister has called for parents to take more responsibility for their children if they are suspended from school.
Anne Craine's comments came in Tynwald, in response to a question from South Douglas MHK Bill Malarkey.
He asked why the Island didn't have legislation, like they do in the United Kingdom, which puts youngsters under curfew during school hours, if they have been sent home for fewer than ten days.
Mr Malarkey said the present system was no punishment as children were free to go out and roam the streets.
Mrs Craine said from September her department would have powers to send home anyone seen out when suspended.
