FT reporting scheme axed by UK Treasury
Plans for a tunnel between Scotland and Northern Ireland could be scrapped as the UK Treasury clamps down on spending.
The proposal, by Prime Minister Boris Johnson, includes an underground hub beneath the Isle of Man.
The Financial Times is reporting the scheme has fallen victim to chancellor Rishi Sunak's crackdown on expenditure commitments ahead of next month's spending review.
The proposed 28 mile long tunnel was being considered by the Network Rail chairman Sir Peter Hendy, with a feasibility study looking into the options of building a tunnel.
