A chronically ill man is calling on the DHSS to improve its benefit system.
Rob Farrer used to be a painter and decorator, but had to give up work when he was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease.
He says the incapacity benefit of just under £63 a week is not enough for him to live on, and believes many other people in similar situations are struggling.
Mr Farrer intends to present a Petition for Redress of Grievance at this year's Tynwald ceremony at St John's, and hold a peaceful protest on the day.
He says there needs to be an additional non-means tested benefit for those who are able to walk around, but have little chance of ever being able to work full-time again (audio file attached):
Manx Radio contacted the DHSS and was told neither the minister nor a department spokesman would respond, as the subject matter involved client confidentiality issues. The department also said it couldn't comment on individual cases.
