Combination of factors blamed for hike
Ramsey Commissioners have increased rates in the town for the next financial year by 9.6 per cent, to 399 pence in the pound.
That increase only applies to the town rate, which is less than half of the annual rates bill at 45 per cent.
It equates to approximately 86p per week for a typical three-bedroomed property.
Chairman Andy Cowie says the rise is due to a number of factors; partly to maintain reserves, because increases have been lower for the past few years, but also to incorporate some changes in circumstances beyond the commissioners' control: (play audio)
The increase will also subsidise continued investment in the town.
