Council Leader unimpressed with DOI stance
'It's like a car park for those waiting to get into McDonalds' - that's how the leader of Douglas Council has described traffic congestion on Peel Road.
David Christian says the main route is 'completely backlogged' at busy times and can't see the situation improving with more 'drive-thru' outlets in the area.
Plans have been lodged for the construction of a KFC and a Starbucks along the road.
In Tynwald last week, Infrastructure Minister Ray Harmer said 'little action' could be taken, but the situation would be monitored.
Mr Christian is unimpressed by the department's stance and believes 'something needs to give' - as he told Local Democracy Reporter Ewan Gawne.
In response to the Council Leader, Minister Harmer says changing the layout of Peel Road would simply lead to other problems elsewhere.
He says there isn't a 'simple solution' to the issue.
