The highest ranking woman police officer the Isle of Man has ever had is retiring from the Manx force.
Detective Superintendent Carolyn Kinrade was the Island's first female sergeant, and achieved similar feats when she was promoted to inspector and chief inspector on the way to her present role.
Her work as a police officer will be recognised when she travels to London early next month, to receive the Queen's Police Medal.
DS Kinrade joined the Manx force in the mid 1970s and says, in those days, female officers were viewed rather differently by their male colleagues (play audio file):
DS Kinrade's role will be taken over by Detective Chief Inspector Dave Hughes.
Another senior officer who is retiring next month, Chief Inspector Peter Young, will be succeeded by Detective Inspector Sid Caine.
