Franklin and Corlett also put in promising times during same event

Manx athlete Sarah Astin has continued her brilliant start to 2023 by setting a new Manx record for the women's 10k road race.

Taking part in the Trafford 10k on Sunday (5 March), Astin posted a personal best time of 32 minutes 35 seconds, which also set a new Isle of Man record for the distance as she finished fifth overall in a high-calibre women's field.

It beats the previous record of 33 minutes 18 seconds which had been held by Rachael Franklin.

Meanwhile, Franklin along with fellow Manx runner Alan Corlett also put in strong displays during the same competition as both continue their return from injury layoffs.

Franklin finished 21st in the women's race in a time of 33 minutes 44 seconds - just 26 seconds off her personal best - whilst Corlett, running for Salford Harriers, clocked 31 minutes 26 seconds in the men's race.

For Astin, the latest milestone comes after she was crowned English national cross-country champion at Bolesworth Castle in Chester on Saturday, 25 February.
