Manxman blitzes past previous benchmark in North Carolina
Manx athlete, David Mullarkey has shattered his own Isle of Man men's 5,000m track race record.
Competing over the distance at the ASICS Sound Invite in North Carolina, USA on Sunday (15 February), the Island competitor went on to finish fourth in the Men's 5,000m ASICS race in 13 minutes, 18.4 seconds.
His time is more than five seconds quicker than his previous record-breaking pace of 13 minutes, 23.75 seconds set in Boston last year.
As well as setting a new national benchmark, Mullarkey's performance was also a new indoor personal best.
As of now, Mullarkey currently holds five men's track and field Isle of Man records.
Along with the men's 5,000m, he holds the men's 10,000m record from last year; the men's 1,500m and one-mile records from 2022 and the Men's 3,000m benchmark in 2021.
