Candidate warns of 'uncertain times'

Rushen MHK and Manx government minister Phil Gawne will be defending his seat in the House of Keys general election in September.

Mr Gawne has represented the constituency as an independent since topping the poll in a bye-election in 2003.

Announcing his intention to go for another term, he says he believes the next five years will be the toughest faced by the Isle of Man for a generation.

Mr Gawne, the current infrastructure minister, says the Island faces very uncertain political and economic times, and will need to fully engage the skills, innovative thinking and spirit of the Manx people, if it is to retain the stability and prosperity it deserves.

All three sitting members in Rushen have now confirmed they will be standing in the election.

So Far Mr Gawne, Juan Watterson and Quintin Gill are being challenged by Laurence Skelly and Adrian Tinkler.
