DESC doesn't have legal powers to continue scheme over summer
More than 90% of those who qualify for free school meals used the voucher scheme while schools were closed due to coronavirus.
The education department issued more than 6,500 vouchers prior to the TT half term, with more than 5,900 redeemed.
Take up of free school meals during a normal academic year is usually around 70%.
Vouchers with a face value of £23 to £29 were provided fortnightly while pupils were required to learn remotely.
Garff MHK Daphne Caine asked in the House of Keys whether the initiative would be continued over the summer holidays.
Education Minister Dr Alex Allinson says the department doesn't have the legal power to do so, but is looking at options.
